Yanmar ViO55-6B 5.5T excavator hire
For jobs that have outgrown a small excavator, the ViO55-6B brings substantially more digging depth, reach and capacity while retaining Yanmar’s true zero-tail-swing design.
Dry hire is $500 per day from Digger2Hire Northern Rivers & Tweed. This is the largest machine in Rick’s current hire fleet and is intended for serious excavation where the site has enough access and working room for a machine about 2 metres wide.

When a 2.5T excavator is no longer enough
The ViO55-6B is the step up for excavation where productivity, reach and digging depth matter more than squeezing through residential side access. It can suit larger drainage and trenching work, site preparation, bigger footings, retaining-wall excavation, landscaping and earthmoving where the access and ground conditions are appropriate.
At 1,990 mm wide, this is not a machine to book first and measure later. The entire access route needs to allow for the machine itself, safe clearance, turns, slopes, overhead obstacles and a suitable working area once it reaches the job.
True zero-tail swing
Yanmar describes the ViO55-6B as a true zero-tail-swing excavator. That means the rear of the upper structure stays within the machine’s track width while slewing, reducing rear overhang around walls, structures and other obstacles.
Zero-tail swing makes the machine easier to manage in constrained work areas, but it does not make a 5.5T excavator a tight-access machine. You still need suitable width and safe operating clearance around the boom, attachment and tracks.

The sleeper grab is included as part of the $500 daily hire rate, with no separate daily hire charge for that included attachment.

Which excavator size should you choose?
If the job does not need a 5.5T machine, hiring smaller can make transport and site access easier. The Kubota U25-3 2.5T excavator is the natural step down when you still want more depth and reach than a mini excavator.
For typical residential work, see the Kubota U17-3 mini excavator. If access is extremely tight, the Kubota K008-3 micro excavator retracts to approximately 700 mm wide.

Delivery available across Northern Rivers & Tweed
Delivery and collection are available for $150 within approximately 20 km where applicable, with longer distances quoted individually. Delivery is the usual option where practical. Approved customer collection from Tweed Heads may be available by appointment where the driver, tow vehicle, electric brake controller and confirmed transport arrangement meet the requirements.
